Lubricant Suppliers Mark up Prices in China

A round of price hikes is working its way through Chinas lubricant market, but buyers will not necessarily be paying the amounts that marketers have announced.

With Southeast Asian countries attempting to open their doors more to regional trade, many lubricant suppliers are keen to expand into neighboring countries. But observers suggest that brand building and local partnerships are still key to a winning expansion strategy.

Group II Rerefinery Planned for Bangladesh

Lub-rref (Bangladesh) Ltd. will open a 50,000 metric tons per year API Group II rerefinery by March 2019 with the help of American used oil regeneration technology provider Chemical Engineering Partners. The plant will be the countrys largest base oil source and its first to make Group II.

Lubrizol to Buy Control of its India JV

Lubrizol Corp. will buy an additional 24 percent stake of Lubrizol India Pvt., a 50-50 joint venture between the American additives supplier and Indian Oil Corp. The deal, which will give the former majority ownership, was approved by the Indian government last week and is expected to be completed soon.

Correction

The initial version of last weeks Asia Base Oil Price Report included incorrect information about a turnaround at the SK Lubricants and Repsol joint venture API Group II and III base oil plant in Cartagena, Spain. There has not been a recent outage at that plant.

The Japanese Automotive Standards Organization will revise its 2-cycle motorcycle engine oil standard, JASO M345, by April 2018. JASO is reviewing tests for lubricity, detergency, smoke, and exhaust system blocking. Sri Lankas Laugfs Holdings Ltd. launched a rebranding campaign involving new logos and packaging for its gas and lubricant brands.
