U.S. Wind Power Capacity Still Rising

United States operating wind power capacity grew 9.5 percent in 2019 to almost 105,600 megawatts, while power purchase agreements between utilities and corporate buyers hit a record 8,726 MW, according to a market report by the national trade association for the U.S. wind industry.

Canada Permits Use of Toxic Chemical

The Canadian government decreed this month that it will permit 9-octadecenoic acid (Z)- compound with (Z)-N-9-octadecenyl-1,3-propanediamine to be used as an ingredient in engine oils and transmission fluids even though it suspects the substance to be toxic.

The New York Power Authority recently used a mini submersible robot to navigate through the transformer oils in a power transformer to identify operation issues while reducing unplanned down time as well as risk to personnel.

Macedonia, Ohio-based Functional Products Inc. will distribute and technically support Dow Chemical Co.‘s premium grades of ethylene propylene diene monomer for the lubricant industry in the United States and Canada. EPDM, also known as OCP or olefin copolymer in the lubes industry, is used in automotive and industrial applications. Sol Group was appointed an authorized ExxonMobil distributor for Mobil lubricants in 12 markets in the Caribbean region. Safety-Kleen announced to customers it will increase blended oil prices by up to 12 percent effective March 1.
