Europe Tackles Read-Across, Interchange

Europes lubricant industry has fallen far behind in the development of base oil interchange and viscosity grade read-across guidelines but is now working to develop rules so oil companies can better cope with growing market complexity.

Tests Find Spanish Oils Mostly Compliant

A recent analysis of 25 engine oils by the Spanish Association of Lubricant Companies found that nearly all met labeling mandates as well as a few chemical requirements.

New Oil Ageing Rig Still a Year Away

Bosch Rexroth is set to take delivery of the first prototype of its oil ageing test rig, a machine developed to obtain more precise values for the effects of lubricants ageing in the field. The prototype will be delivered in the coming weeks, an official with the German equipment manufacturer recently told a conference in Amsterdam.

EAL Performance Triggers Rules Update

Norway-based classification society DNV GL will update its shaft alignment design rules to differentiate between environmentally acceptable lubricants and mineral oils in stern tubes effective July 1, adding a viscosity influence parameter to existing lubrication rule criteria for the aft most propeller shaft bearings.

ASTM Adopts Biobased Grease Test

ASTM International approved as a standard a new small scale oxidation test that provides more accurate results for biobased greases. The approval culminates a long effort by the Biobased Greases Working Group - a joint effort between The European Lubricating Grease Institute and the National Lubricating Grease Institute.
