Gazprom Installs Square Storage Tanks

In English, square is slang for old-fashioned and out of touch, but in Russia Gazpromneft-Lubricants says that square tanks are an innovative way to improve efficiency in base oil and lubricant storage.

The company recently finished installing multiple such tanks at its blending plant in Fryazino, near Moscow.

The main feature of the new storage park is its square form, the company said in a Dec. 12 press release. It is unique among oil tank reservoirs in Russia, which usually have a cylindrical construction.

The cubic tanks – each of which has a total of 800 cubic meters of storage space – are comprised of 10 sections with separate oil reservoirs. Each tank has a heating system that allows each section to be kept at optimal temperatures while reducing heating costs that saves heating energy and helps keep the product at optimal temperature.

The tanks are also equipped with automatic dosage, and Gazpromneft-Lubricants said they helped increase the plant’s capacity to 90,000 metric tons per year. Officials did not disclose the previous capacity.

Gazpromneft-Lubricants operates six production sites in Russia, Italy and Serbia.
