Independent lubricants manufacturer Fuchs Petrolub SE expanded its operations in Kaiserslautern, Germany, doubling warehouse capacity and creating space to increase production, the company announced last week.

Mannheim, Germany-based Fuchs did not respond to a request for comment by deadline. The Kaiserslautern site mainly produces lubricants for special applications, which Fuchs describes as high-performance lubricants, greases and release agents used in demanding applications, such as food and beverage processing, rail transportation, wind power and glass manufacturing.

The 16 million (U.S. $18.1 million) project includes a new fully automated storage and retrieval warehouse, which doubles the previous packaged product storage capacity, and two new production halls which allow future production capacity expansions to the site.

One highlight is the energy-saving oxygen reduction, whereby we use a modern fire protection concept in such a way that we can store numerous materials such as cardboard boxes and chemicals together, which would otherwise not be possible, Markus Heck, managing director of Fuchs Lubritech, said about the warehouse in a news release.

The renovated site also includes expanded research and development laboratories.

The Kaiserslautern plant now covers 96,000 square meters. The two new production halls come with a floor space of approximately 1,000 and 1,300 square meters. The site employs around 300 people, according to Fuchs.
