SSY Base Oil Shipping Report

It was slow for much of last week in the Americas, especially for base oils. Europe has had an occasional burst of base oil movement, mainly within the Mediterranean, and Asia has been generally dull, with mainly small base oil cargoes and a few movements to India and the Middle East Gulf.-by Adrian Brown

Glencore, Sinopec Vie for Chevron Assets

The South African Competition Commission last week qualified a bid by a group backed by Swiss mining company Glencore to acquire 75 percent of Chevrons downstream operations in South Africa and all of its operations in Botswana. Chevron is now free to choose between that offer and another that was previously qualified from Sinopec.

Rosneft Lubes Sales Grew in 2017

Rosnefts sales of what it calls premium lubricants rose by 17 percent to 70,000 metric tons in 2017 thanks to stepped-up marketing in the corporate and retail segments, the company said in its latest annual report.

Slack Waxes in Demand in Europe

Slack wax from Russia and Uzbekistan is in high demand and selling for higher prices in Europe due to the holiday season in Poland and technical issues experienced by several major wax producers in Western Europe, an industry insider told Lube Report.

Burckhardt Compression and ExxonMobil signed a global lubricants collaboration agreement for cylinder lubrication oil and related services for operators of reciprocating compressors. The companies will provide equipment and technical lubrication services, performed globally by each companies field engineering teams, including training in products and lubrication best practices, lubricant analysis, equipment troubleshooting and maintenance support. United Kingdom-based Hydrodec Group plcs transformer oil rerefining technology patent was extended to Europe, the company announced. The patent covers design and process improvements made to the rerefining process since 2009.
