New emissions standards loom for China and India, and both markets could encounter problems related to availability of compliant fuels and engine oil compatibility with gasoline particulate filters, industry insiders said at a conference last month.

Robust Growth Forecast for India

South Korean base oil refiners S-Oil and Hyundai Shell Base Oil posted sharp declines in operating profit for the quarter ending June 30, each noting that base oil margins have declined amid a global surplus.

Hyogo, Japan-based Moresco Corp. opened a new lubricant plant in Ahmedabad, India. The facility has the capacity to produce 10,000 metric tons per year of lubricants and hot melt adhesives, and will primarily make lubes for hot forging and metal cutting fluids.
