Thai Firms Team to Recycle Containers

Bangchak Corp. and SCG Chemical Co. signed a memorandum of understanding last month to develop a lubricant packaging recycling scheme in Thailand.

The program, named Greenovative Lube Packaging, would recycle containers collected from Bangchak petrol stations and Furio Care, an automotive care outlet owned by Bangchak. It would use SCGs contacts throughout plastics producers, packaging molders, container owners, service providers, lubricant users and recyclers to ensure that the containers get recycled.

SCG, which also goes by the name Chemicals Business SCG, is a Bangkok-based developer and manufacturer of special-grade high-density polyethylene. It is one of Thailands largest integrated petrochemical companies. Bangchak, which is also headquartered in Bangkok, is an oil refining company that provides a wide range of petrochemical products, including lubricants, lubricant additives and fuel.

The companies did not say if their partnership already has a process for recycling the containers or facilities where they would do so. They said the program will take a circular economy approach to recycling. SCG has a separate collaboration with Dow Chemicals Thai subsidiary and Thai real developer SC Asset to develop technology to build roads from recycled plastic. In December the companies extended their partnership.
