Fire at Chongqing Plant Kills Three

Three people were killed after a fire broke out on the morning of April 6 at a Yate Lubricant Co. factory in the Bishan District of Chongqing, China.

First there was a huge blast, then flames poured out and someone called 119, [Chinas emergency telephone number], a witness told Chongqing Evening News. All senior management were inside the factory when the fire broke out. According to that newspapers report, the fire started at around 10:40 and was extinguished by 11:50.

The deceased were employees of the lubricant company. Local authorities quoted in the report said the owner of the company was under police control after the incident and a compensation process for relatives of the deceased had been initiated.

Authorities have formed a team to investigate the cause of the fire, but local fire department officials declined to provide more information.

Chongqing-headquartered Yate Lubricant Co. was established in 2009. Its businesses include processing waste oil; blending and selling lubricants; and supplying diesel oil, gasoline, fuel oil and other petroleum and chemical products.
