Aiming to provide lubricant formulations tailored to Sri Lankan driving conditions, Laugfs Lubricants Ltd. recently opened a research and development center billed as a tribology park at the Board of Investment Export Processing Park in Malwatta, Nittambuwa.

Our team of research and development scientists and technologists are working on many innovative products and solutions to specifically cater to the local driving conditions, Laugfs Lubricants Director and CEO Gamini Amarasekera told Lube Report Asia.

As factors such as fuel quality, ambient temperature, air quality, road and traffic conditions, etc., vary significantly due to geographic conditions, this localization will be critical for enhanced efficiency and performance of vehicles, he said.

Amarasekera pointed out that most modern vehicles, machinery equipment and lubricants are designed for operations in larger developed markets such as North America, China, Japan and Europe. Therefore its difficult to achieve optimum performance from equipment and products operated in different environments and climates such as those of tropical countries like Sri Lanka, India, Bangladesh and Myanmar, he explained.

Based on a combination of insights Laugfs has gained in the local lubricant industry coupled with global technology, our unique lubricant formulations are created using cutting-edge research and innovation at the tribology park, Amarasekera added.

He claimed that the new products will not only benefit local customers, but will also indrectly help the countrys economy. They will not only extend the lifespan of automobiles and machinery but save foreign exchange outflow that would otherwise have been spent on spare parts.

Established in 2008, Laugfs Lubricants offers a range of high-quality automobile and industrial lubricant products. It has original equipment manufacturer approvals for Volvo, Renault and Porsche vehicles and claims to be the only Sri Lankan lubricant company to hold licenses from the American Petroleum Institute, which defines global industry standards for motor oils.

Laugfs Lubricants is a subsidiary of Laugfs Holdings Ltd., one of the largest diversified business conglomerates in Sri Lanka.
