There were several errors in an article in the Oct. 31 issue about a Kline & Co. report on the global lubricants industry. Kline estimates that the 10 largest suppliers sold almost 50 percent of all finished lubricants in 2017. Synthetic and semi-synthetic products accounted for nearly 50 percent of global passenger car motor oil demand in that year, up from 33 percent in 2015, the firm said, and engine oils used in passenger cars, motorcycles and heavy-duty trucks accounted for 40 percent of global lube demand. Global demand for synthetic and semi-synthetic lubricants is rising partly because of an increasing number of products, which will also help drive future growth in North America.
