Coolants Plus Acquires Scot

Much of Coolant Plus’ Starfire Brand products will be produced at the PennStar facility, though the company will still use some private vendors.

The 250,000 square foot former Scot Lubricants plant, located in Northampton, Pennsylvania, houses 750,000 gallons of tank storage and a testing lab. This will be Coolant Plus third site and its first manufacturing facility. It also has a 35,000 square foot warehouse in Jacksonville, Tennessee, which operates as Panther Petroleum, and a 125,000 square foot warehouse in Hamilton, Ohio, just outside of Cincinnati.

This provides us our own source point in a region that allows us to grow north, east and south of our facility in [Hamilton], Ohio, Said Darrin Ward, chief financial officer for the newly acquired PennStar. He also emphasized that all current employees in Northampton will be retained.

Coolants Plus will use the site to increase production of Starfire branded lubricants and to gain greater control over quality assurance testing, according to a press release. Previously, the company used toll blenders to manufacture Starfire products.

Last year Coolants Plus added several new products to its Starfire brand, including motor flush fluid, fuel injector fluid and several diesel fuel additives through the companys Monster line. The company hopes to continue focusing on Starfire this year.

The focus on the Starfire brand has really shifted our focus from just a wholesale distributor to a real brand. By having the ability to blend our own products we set ourselves apart from the term private brands, noted Ward.

Scot Lubricants customers will have access to the full Starfire line, which includes passenger car motor oil, heavy-duty motor oil, hydraulic fluid, grease and several other offerings.

Hamilton, Ohio-based Coolants Plus is a lubricant and coolant supplier focused on automotive, agricultural and industrial applications. Scot Lubricants manufactures and blends a range of automotive, industrial and heavy-duty products, and is based in Northampton, Penn.
