New Vehicles Reshape Latin Americas Market

Many of the automotive engine oil trends that are swaying markets globally - the drive for greater fuel economy, extended service life and durability, and rapid advancements in engine design - are also influencing the Latin American lubricants market, according to several presenters at the ICIS Pan American Base Oils and Lubricants Conference last month.

API Engine Oil Licensing Fees Rise

Fees for the American Petroleum Institutes Engine Oil Licensing and Certification System increased Dec. 1 in order to offset the costs of APIs consumer education campaign and new standard implementation.

Calumet Posts Third Quarter Loss

Calumet Specialty Products Partners, L.P. reported a $23.6 million loss, improving from a $33.4 million loss in 2016s third quarter. The company announced Nov. 10 it would delay reporting of its third quarter earnings.

McDougall Energy Inc. of Salt Ste. Marie in Ontario, Canada, acquired the assets of Davis Fuels, also a family-owned fuel and lubricant distributor in Ontario, which will continue under its name as a division of McDougall. ATRP Solutions Inc., a subsidiary of Pilot Chemical Co., is now Pilot Polymer Technologies Inc. Pilot Chemical acquired Pittsburgh-based ATRP Solutions in July 2017 to expand its footprint in the oil field chemicals, lubricant additives and paints and coatings markets.
