Lanxess Acquires Brazilian Biocide Maker

Lanxess acquired Itibanyl Produtos Especiais Ltda., a leading Brazilian manufacturer of biocides, including some used in metalworking fluids and lubricants. The purchase price was not disclosed for the deal, which was announced Dec. 2.

Petrobras to Sell Uruguay Business

Brazils Petrobras started the process to sell its distribution company in Uruguay so that it can exit the South American countrys lubricants, fuels and liquid fertilizers market.

MFG Upgrades Chemicals Pilot Plant

MFG Chemical last week announced completion of an upgrade of its pilot plant in Dalton, Georgia, and plans for a second pilot reactor. The pilot plant makes small quantities of specialty chemicals used in lubricants, such as esters, surfactants and sulfonate and phosphate derivatives.

Private equity firm Gemspring Capital announced an affiliate completed an investment in Spring, Texas-based Shrieve Chemical Co., a specialty lubricants producer. San Diego, California-based WD-40 Co.‘s board of directors appointed Neal Schmale as independent lead director and WD-40 CEO Garry Ridge as chairman of the board, effective yesterday. Ridge is replacing Linda Lang as chairman following her retirement as a director as of yesterday’s 2019 annual meeting of stockholders.
